How Dental Insurance Works

Every dental insurance policy comes with its own set of benefits, coverage levels, stipulations, and fees. It is important that you review the details of your unique plan to find out how it works. In the meantime, we can provide an overview of the benefits that are common among many PPO policies:

  • Preventive care is often up to 100% covered.
  • Basic services may be up to 80% covered.
  • Major services may be 50% covered.

Your plan may also come with a deductible, waiting periods, and an annual benefits limit.

What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?

Dental and medical insurance have different areas of focus. Medical insurance is designed to help you care for your overall/systemic health, so it applies to routine visits with your primary care doctor, emergency room visits, and major procedures. It does not typically apply to routine dental care. Dental insurance, on the other hand, has a focus on preventive dental care and provides a high level of coverage for things like cleanings, exams, and fillings.

In some cases, there is a bit of crossover between dental and medical insurance. For example, they might both apply to some types of oral surgery.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Whether our practice is in your insurance network or outside of it, our team is ready to welcome you as a patient and help you get the most out of your benefits.

In-Network Coverage

If we are in-network with an insurance plan, it means we have a contract that manages prices and promotes a certain level of care. Often, patients enjoy the lowest out-of-pocket fees at in-network practices.

At Diamond Bright Dental, we are in-network with:

  • Zelis
  • UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
  • GEHA/CDN
  • Careington
  • Humana
  • Principal
  • Dentical

Out-of-Network

Even if we are not in your insurance network, we still invite you to visit us for top-quality care. We can file claims for all PPO plans, and you may enjoy many of the same perks that you would at an in-network practice. Keep in mind that the most important thing is to receive care from a dental team whom you truly trust to care for your smile!
