Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planning is a two-step treatment process that starts with the thorough removal of all plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth. This will help minimize the number of infection-causing bacteria within the mouth as well as provide some much-needed relief from inflammation and other symptoms of gum disease. Next, our team will remove hardened pockets of bacteria on the roots of the teeth to allow them to heal and the gums to reattach. We’ll make sure to numb your mouth beforehand to help you feel comfortable throughout the procedure.
Laser Periodontal Treatment
Our Genesis soft tissue laser allows us to effortlessly and precisely remove infected gum tissue, leaving behind only the healthy tissue to re-attach with the teeth and protect their roots. The soft tissue laser immediately cauterizes the area and kills harmful oral bacteria on contact, helping minimize post-operative discomfort like bleeding and reducing recovery time.
Antibiotic Treatment
We also offer antibiotic treatment to help fight off the infection at its source within the pockets of the gums. Instead of prescribing the medication in the form of pills, we utilize small Arestin microspheres that we’ll place into your gum pockets that will gradually disperse the antibiotics exactly where they can do the most good. We typically have our patients who undergo this procedure come back two weeks after their treatment to check on the results.
